One Good Dog Susan Wilson Books
I cannot recommend this book enough. The book is good, and the writing style of the author fantastic. As an added bonus, the story takes place in Boston, and as a former resident of that great city, I can relate immensely with many of locations described in the book. The story is really two stories. Half of the book details our hero Adam March's rise and fall within corporate America. Without giving anything anyway, Adam suffers a nervous breakdown at work which results in him losing his job. This starts a cascade of events that eventually results in Adam losing everything. The rest of this story chronicles his comeback from the abyss, as well as offering glimpses into his background that explain the reason why he is who is.
The other half of the story is told from from the perspective of a Pitt bull who started his life out as dog fighter. He is eventually rescued, and adopted by Adam March. The rest of the story chronicles the bonding process between this dog and Adam in beautiful detail. As a dog owner and animal lover, I found everything that the author described as far as the dog's thinking to be extremely believable, and not unreasonable.
In short, this story was extremely moving, and I found myself tearing up at several points in the book. I have a few key takeaways after reading this story - (1) Don't judge a book by it's cover. Pitt bulls are great dogs, and I think if you are able and in the market for a great dog, you should consider taking one of these guys into your home, and (2) dog fighting is abomination, and those engaged in this practice should be thrown in prison for life.

One Good Dog Susan Wilson Books Reviews
As an animal lover I always hesitate to read a book I suspect will leave me sobbing at the end but this was such a wonderfully written and insightful book that I'm glad I risked it. Some of the reviewers are angry that the author talked about the horrible aspects of dog fighting...YES, it is cruel and inhumane and instead of closing our eyes to it because it makes us sad, shining the light on it as the author did should inspire us to speak out against it, to rally for stronger laws to stop it and more severe penalties for those who abuse helpless animals. Pretending it doesn't exist helps none except those who try to prove their manhood by fighting and eventually killing an innocent animal. I loved the writing and the first-person speaking by Chance...the author has captured the essence of life from Chance's perspective. Yes, I cried at what I thought was the end then cheered at the end. A must read even if you've never fallen on hard times and don't even like dogs!
This was a re-read. I read it several years ago and enjoyed it then but this time I read slower and enjoyed it more. The
Telling of the story from the Dogs point of view was fantastic and very interesting. The story line between two broken individuals was heart inspiring and gave me a look from a different point of view.
I would whole heartily recommend this book. Be carful, you might learn something about yourself.
It was months ago that I first started reading this book, but found it so disturbing that I set it aside and had not read another novel since. So by chance that a couple of days ago I recharged my and skimmed over what I had previously read, then I started reading in earnest where I had left off. I loved it and I love dogs and I am so glad I gave it a second go! I became so emotionally involved that I actually found myself holding my breath at times. It plucked at my heartstrings throughout, on several different levels, but I don't want to share more for fear I will reveal too much. I urge pet-lover readers to take a Chance on One Good Dog as you perhaps have on Dan and Little Ann, Old Yeller, and Lassie.
This book is written from two perspectives—Adam and Chance’s. Adam is a man struggling with a buried past and Chance is a former fighting pit bull. The story grabbed me from the very get-go and I found it nearly impossible to put down. I celebrated their achievements and sobbed with their heartbreaks. The story is a feel-good story that will have you wishing that it didn’t end, as all good books must do. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves animals—especially dogs!
I had a bit of a hard time getting into this story because the dog started first and I didn't think I was interested. Oh, I was so wrong!! The dog and the main character really save each other! it took a long time. I really thought each was a hard case and neither would come to their senses! But they did and it was a sad and happy ending!
I enjoyed this book. I could have done without the language. I realize that is how a great many people in our society speak. I'm just not one of them. I loved how the author told us the story from the dogs point of view as well as the man, Adam. This is a story of acceptance and forgiveness. I cried at the end.
Wow!!! I love this book! The way Adam and this dog, Pit Bull, relate to each other and helping each other get through some rough times is amazing. It is a great human story of redemption, fighting your way through issues in your life and recognizing the need to change. But it is not so easy for Adam until he meets his dog. This is such a testimony of the relationship you can have with a dog and the meaning and love they can bring to you. Adam felt such despair and his dog stood by him. This book made me think of the two dogs our family had as our children grew up and how much they added to our day routines. Their existence brought out the best in us and I see what this dog did for Adam. But it is fun to see this story also through the eyes of the dog. I could not put this book down! I highly recommend this book and the notion that a dog really is a mans best friend!
